I would like to dedicate this first post on T.O.C to Andre Bazin. He is the o.g auteur of the twentieth century with the given title Spiritual Father of the French New Wave (Nouvelle Vague).
Here is a scene from the 2001 indi film Waking Life: Filmmaker Caveh Zahedi talks to poet David Jewell about André Bazin's ideas on cinema and storytelling. Animation by Patrick Thornton and Nathan Jensen.
What Jewell is trying to say about the HOLY MOMENT in cinema is precisely what the viewer experienced. Simultaneously transfixed on the screen; looking, sighing, crying, feeling. It's a spiritual connection between audience and image.
